Project
Kent Academy — a restorative response
An independent restorative response into the historical harm at Kent Academy.
About the project
Voices Heard was contracted by SIM in June 2024 to lead an independent restorative response into the harm that occurred at Kent Academy (KA) in Miango, Nigeria. The work is co-designed with the Adult Kent Academy Kids Steering Committee (AKAK SC) and grounded in the restorative values of relationship, respect, responsibility, repair, and reintegration.
How we work
We facilitate listening circles, dialogues, and storytelling sessions between Kent Academy alumni and SIM leadership. Every step is voluntary, confidential, and trauma-informed — participants decide how, when, and whether their stories are shared.
What's underway
Story-listening and research with the broader KA community began in March 2026. Storytelling sessions between AKAK SC and SIM leadership are ongoing, and the public Pathways to be Heard opened in July 2026.
